Request an estimateWhat does concrete cutting in Saratoga involve?
Concrete cutting in Saratoga means sawing through a slab or wall, inside your house or outside at a driveway, curb or sidewalk, so a damaged section can come out or a new opening can go in with straight, clean edges.
Most calls start with a section that has to go, like a sunken stretch of driveway, a patio slab in the way of a new drain line, or a wall that needs a doorway. The price moves with how thick the concrete is, whether there's rebar inside, the steel bars that help hold a slab together, how long the cut runs, whether we're working inside or outside and what happens to the pieces afterward. The schedule mostly turns on who's finding the buried lines and whether the city needs to weigh in, and I check early on what the city wants for your cut so a permit question doesn't stall you later. You get your own figure when I come out and write the estimate.
How we do a concrete cutting job
Before we cut, you and I settle who's finding any lines buried in or near the concrete, because a saw blade can't tell a water pipe from gravel. Then I mark the cut line with you, so we both agree on exactly where the opening goes. For work inside, I'll tell you which saw we're bringing and why, since the wrong saw in a closed room is a problem for the air you breathe. Outside, we cover nearby storm drains so the gray slurry the saw throws off, a mix of water and concrete dust, doesn't wash into them, and we pick a spot on your lot for the cut pieces. Then we make the cut, lift the pieces out, and wash down and sweep up before we leave.
A cut is usually the first step of something else. When we take out part of a driveway, the new section is poured as part of our concrete driveway building work, and a cut through an old patio often leads into concrete patio construction. On those pours, I'd rather spend your money on the subgrade, the packed ground the slab sits on, than on a fancier finish, because a base that's only raked level settles with the dirt and takes the new concrete down with it.
What changes a concrete cutting job in Saratoga
Near the street, the first question is whose ground the cut is on. Saratoga says the property line usually sits 5 to 10 feet from the edge of the street, so a cut at the end of a driveway or along the curb can land outside your lot, and the city requires an encroachment permit, its sign-off for building on public land, for any construction past that line. The city's list names driveway, curb, gutter and sidewalk work, not cutting by itself, so whether your cut needs that permit isn't settled until it's asked. If the concrete we cut out near the curb will be replaced, the city's Public Works department asks owners to talk with it before putting in concrete within 15 feet of the street edge, so that call comes first. A cut through a wall or a foundation is a question for the city's Building Division, since the city says structural changes generally need a building permit. When a permit applies, we handle the contractor's side of it and help you with the parts that fall to you.
The city's rules shape the day itself, too. We keep the saw inside Saratoga's construction hours, listed in the questions below, and because the city allows dumpsters only on private property, the pieces wait on your lot until they're hauled. We're based in Saratoga and work across the cities around it, and we run into the same driveway and curb cuts on jobs in Los Gatos and Cupertino.
Why call us for concrete cutting
I walk the cut before pricing
I come out myself to see the job and write the estimate, and in Saratoga that visit is when I check whether your cut sits close enough to the street for the city to weigh in. Our own crew does the work, and when new concrete follows the cut, I'm there to check the forms and the pour.
Explaining every job since 2021
I started this business in 2021 after years running an equipment rental shop, where I learned the trade beside the finishers who rented from me. We're known for explaining a job before we start it, so ask about any part of your cut as many times as you like.
Licensed and insured for saw work
We're fully licensed and insured. That matters when a heavy saw is working close to your house, your pipes and your neighbor's property.

Frequently asked questions
How much does concrete cutting cost in Saratoga?
Your price comes from an estimate on site, because it depends on the concrete in front of you more than on a going rate. One cost people often miss is hauling, since Saratoga lets only approved collection contractors take construction debris, and only to approved processing facilities, so ask any cutter who's taking the pieces away.
Who finds utility lines before a concrete cut?
A concrete cutting trade guideline puts that on the owner or the contractor who hired the cutter, and it covers finding any lines in or next to the concrete and having them shut off. That's why we settle with you before the first cut who's handling it, so nobody assumes the other person did.
How do I cut concrete inside my house safely?
Start with the right saw, because the same trade guideline says engine-powered saws used on interior walls or slabs need ventilation, air circulation or oxygen replacement that meets OSHA standards. Electric, hydraulic and air-powered saws are the other options, and I'll explain at the estimate why one suits your room better than another.
What is the best way to cut a post-tensioned slab?
Scan it first, because one cutting company says a post-tensioned slab, which has tightened high-strength steel cables running through it, needs a ground-penetrating radar scan, called GPR, before any cutting or coring. The scan shows where the cables run and how deep they sit. If you think your house or garage sits on one, tell me at the estimate, because that changes the plan before anything else does.
Can an unlicensed worker do a small concrete cutting job in California?
Only a very small one, because California's minor work exemption tops out at $1,000 and covers only work that needs no permit, done by someone who employs no one on the job. A cut that needs a permit, or a crew with hired workers, falls outside it no matter the price.
What hours can a crew cut concrete in Saratoga?
Saratoga allows construction from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Sundays and weekday holidays are off limits, apart from some residential work between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., so we plan the saw work inside those windows.
Work that often follows a cut
Concrete driveway building
When a cut takes out a cracked or sunken stretch of driveway, a new pour over a packed base gets your car back on solid, level concrete.
Concrete patio construction
If the old patio is cracked past patching or the cut leaves a gap by the back door, we can pour a new slab sized for your yard.
